Appreciation

In this new semester, there is few noticeable changes in the CPA committees. Our past president, vice secretary and vice treasurer have stepped down from their post. Choulyin and Lenny have graduated and we all wish them good luck in their future endeavours. Esther have decided to concentrate on her studies and to give the club fresh faces to lead the club in the future. Apart from that, Ah Yieng has decided to continue her studies at the main campus in Melbourne, Australia. It was a sudden decision, and we will miss you. Really.

The new office bearer have been updated, so please have a look at the right column of the blog.

Putting those tearful farewell(if any) aside, this semester is gonna be packed with exciting, trip-worthy, major activities. So check the blog often, our facebook pages, emails and also be aware of any new notices of the upcoming CPA events! Don't forget!

Past Sem Activity: RTM Trip

Last semester, on the late afternoon of 15th of May 2009, the CPAASC have organized a trip to the RTM Kuching main office at Jalan P. Ramlee which is located just across Hopoh shopping mall. A total of 59 students including the CPA committee members have attended the event.

Upon arrival to RTM, we are welcomed by one of the RTM personnel and escorted to the meeting room to meet up with one of the senior manager who give us an overview on what RTM is all about. He also told of his experience in working in this field, where it is apparent that to get to where he is now, it takes years of working and involvement in different levels of broadcasting in radio, live shows and televisions just to be familiar with the whole thing.

After the talk, we were escorted to visit the recording department where RTM Kuching used to record their radio shows which is based on time slots. At the time, Sarawak fm were on air and we get to see how the dj interview one of the speaker of the day. After that we visited the Auditorium P Ramlee to look at the rehearsal for the Gawai celebration programme. According to the director, the props and recording the whole event which might be within the 10 minutes slots can cost up to approximately RM 20,000 and more. To ensure that there is no wastage for unnecessary footage, there are two time keepers who counted the time it takes to record the whole event.

After visiting the Auditorium, its time to go back. Before that, there are some group pics to be taken! So here they are, enjoy.. :)

CPA Kuching Member Centre Official Opening

On Monday night, the 10th of August, CPAASC committees were invited to the official opening of the new CPA Kuching Member Centre and the launch for the Book Drive for the less fortunate students of SJK(C) Chung Hua Sambir, Kota Samarahan. The event was officiated by the CPA Australia President, Mr Richard Petty and notable attendees are Ms Audrey Danasamy, President of CPA KL, Ms Christina Foo, the President, various members of CPA working committee and our advisors, Mdm Su Sueh Ing and Mr Chan Soon Hua.

One interesting feature is the changes in the requirements for the CPA Passport programme highlighted by the CPA President, Mr Richard Petty. From the gist of it, the new improved programme will enable more people to apply for the passport programme and become a CPA member. One example given by Mr Petty is that the old programme requirement used to stress the importance of accredited degree by the CPA to be able to apply.

The book drive is one of the initiatives by CPA Australia to improve people views on what the organisation is doing and also to improve their Corporate Social Responsibility. Mr Petty also stated that CPA Australia is the only one (among all the other accounting bodies) to have done this community service so far.
